Welcome to the Dog Obedience Club of Hollywood Class Description’s page! We are glad you stopped by to check us out!

We offer a wide range of classes from Puppy to Manners to Canine Good Citizen and more. We can also introduce you to a variety of dog sports, such as Agility, Obedience, Rally and Tracking. We hold classes weekly on Tuesdays at the Bergeron Rodeo Grounds (both outdoors and under cover) in Davie, Florida. All of our classes are open to both purebred and mixed breed dogs. The cost for all of our 6-week Classes is $100 for non-members and $55 for full (non-provisional) Club members; the cost for all of our 3-week Classes is $50 for non-members and $30 for full (non-provisonal) Club members. Special 1-night session prices vary.

All class registrations must be done online and pre-paid via PayPal no later than the prior Tuesday before the respective class or special session starts; please see the applicable registration and payment links below. 6-week Classes:

STAR Puppy Class

Begin your lifelong journey with your new puppy on the right foot ! If you and your puppy complete all six classes and your puppy passes the evaluation on the last night, then your puppy can earn a STAR Puppy Certificate from the AKC. There are no training prerequisites for this class. Puppies who have had all of their puppy shots through the age of 1 year may enroll; dogs over 1 year old may enroll in the class, but will not be eligible to apply for the AKC STAR Puppy® Certificate. Canine Good Citizen Class

Learn the basics of good canine behaviour and earn an AKC title ! Dogs who have had some obedience training or have taken our STAR Puppy or Manners classes are eligible to enroll in this class. The instructor will administer the CGC test to all attendees on the last night of class. After successful completion of the test which includes taking the Responsible Dog Ownership pledge, your dog will be eligible to receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club and use the title “CGC” after its name. Household Manners Class

This class provides the perfect opportunity to have fun and bond with your dog, while at the same time teaching them good behavior, or to brush up on your skills if your dog has previously taken a group training class. No training prerequisites; dogs under 1 year of age should enroll in the STAR Puppy class.

Beginner Rally Class

AKC Rally is a fun family sport with participation increasing each year; it is a perfect starting point for those who are new to dog sports. This class is a comprehensive class for beginners who have not previously competed in Rally or Obedience (or who have not competed in a long time). Dogs who have had some obedience training or have taken any of our Obedience training classes are eligible to enroll in this class. Rally regulations, ring handling and all Novice Rally signs will be covered in this class. Competition Obedience Level I

This 6-week class is for beginner handlers who have started training for competitive Obedience but have not yet competed in trials as well as handlers with prior training and trialing experience who have a new dog to train. The class is open to both purebred and mixed breed dogs; beginner handlers must have taken our 3-week Introduction to Competitive Obedience class as a pre-requisite foundation for this class. This class will focus on the foundation for getting the handler and dog ready to enter obedience trials at the Beginner Novice and Novice class levels, including learning the various exercises in those competition levels as well as an overview of ring handling and procedures. AKC Fit Dog

Dogs receive the same health benefits of physical activity as their humans do. For dogs that compete in dog sports, fitness activities offer increased performance, decreased risk of injury, and a healthier mind and body. For those dogs that do not participate in dog sports, K9 Fitness is a great way to stimulate your dogs brain, lower stress levels, help eliminate problem behaviors, curb boredom and anxiety and offer weight management benefits. Please join us and see what your dog can learn. Dogs who have had some obedience training or have taken any of our Obedience training classes are eligible to enroll in this class. Minimum age requirements: Small to Medium breeds must be over 1 year old and Large to Giant breeds must be over 18 months old to participate. This Fit Dog class is one of the events that can be used once towards any of the Fit Dog titles. SPECIAL EVENTS

AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluations

Ready to test you and your dog’s Canine Good Citizenship skills ? We will be offering CGC testing periodically. Cost is $25 (fee is waived for prior DOCOH CGC Class students).

AKC Trick Evaluations

Ready to test you and your dog’s Tricks skills ? We will be offering Tricks testing periodically (all levels). Cost is $25 (fee is waived for prior DOCOH Tricks Class students).

Obedience Skills Practice

Obedience Skills practice is a fun, fast-paced group class that will start at 8:30PM when offered and costs $10 per handler, when open to the public. The class is open to all purebred and mixed breed dogs who have taken any of our 6-week training classes or have had other group training. Dogs with no prior general obedience training cannot participate in this class. The Instructor will call out a variety of commands and exercises for handlers to follow with their dogs. The commands and exercises will be a combination of general obedience training, AKC competition Obedience and Rally exercises and a variety of games from time to time. This class will give handlers the opportunity to continue working with their dog in a group setting to strengthen their relationship and bond as well as enhance the dog’s ability to work through distractions if the handler has begun advanced competition training. It is up to the handler to work their dog at the level they feel most comfortable. The Instructor will assist new attendees as time permits during the class or after the class if necessary. Please use the 3-week “Class for Members” payment option to pay $30 for 3 sessions; attendees will be given a punch card ticket good 3 sessions at the first session after payment. Each punch card ticket can be used interchangeably for Rally Run Thrus and Obedience Skills Practice sessions; there are no expiration dates but no refund for unused sessions.

Rally Run Thrus

Rally run thrus will start at 7:30PM when offered and costs $10 per handler. Run thrus are open to all purebred and mixed breed dogs who have taken any of our 6-week training classes or have had other group training; these sessions are not suitable for dogs or handlers with no prior Rally training as no instruction is provided. A nested course will be set up for individual work. Please use the 3-week “Class for Members” payment option to pay $30 for 3 sessions; attendees will be given a punch card ticket good for 3 sessions (no expiration dates but no refund for unused sessions) at the first session after payment. Each punch card ticket can be used interchangeably for Rally Run Thrus and Obedience Skills Practice sessions; there are no expiration dates but no refund for unused sessions.

AGILITY

Foundation Class

Agility is a fun, fast-paced sport to enjoy with your dog. Training is fun but requires a strong foundation. Join us for a beginning Foundation for Agility class the next time it is offered. Foundation Class, Level II

Join us for a Level II Agility Foundation class the next time it is offered. This class is open to dogs who have taken our initial Agility Foundation class or experienced handlers who want some remedial work before going on to full course training.

Advanced Classes

These are 6-week series of classes after the Foundation class. Students can register in each series at the direction of the Agility Director. If you have some agility foundation training from another Club or training group and would like to participate in our classes, please contact our Agility Director for information on joining an upcoming series.

How to Enter an Agility Trial

This 3-week class is for beginner handlers who have started training but not yet competed in trials. The class will include an overview of the AKC Agility Regulations, how to find out about and enter trials, getting your dog measured to confirm jump height, preparing for a trial, analyzing the course map and walking the course before your class, encountering the start and finish line equipment, and understanding scoring including qualifying scores and titles.

3-week Classes

Tricks

Tricks are a great way to continue the bond between you and your dog plus the two of you can be the life of the party ! Dogs who have had some obedience training or have taken any of our Obedience training classes are eligible to enroll in this class. After the 3-week session, we will offer Trick Dog evaluations the following week for anyone interested in the opportunity to earn an AKC Trick Dog Title on their dog. Obedience Skills Class

This 3-week class is geared towards beginner handlers who want to advance their training and have not previously trained for competitive Obedience/Rally or competed in trials. Experienced handlers who want some remedial work on the basics may also attend this class. The class is open to both purebred and mixed breed dogs who have taken our Manners or CGC 6-week training classes or similar training; dogs with no prior general obedience training cannot participate in this class. The foundations for competing in Obedience and Rally will be introduced: handling, heel position, heeling (as opposed to loose leash walking), sits, stays, recalls and fronts. The Club anticipates offering this class every 3 or 4 months on an on-going basis. This class is a pre-requisite for all beginner handlers in order to register for any competitive Obedience or Rally classes. Introduction to Open Obedience

This 3-week class is for handlers who are training or trialing in competitive Obedience in the Beginner Novice or Novice classes and want to learn about Open. The class will include an overview of the AKC Obedience Regulations for the Open class as well as a foundation introduction of the Open exercises.

Introduction to Rally Novice

AKC Rally is a fun family sport with participation increasing each year; it is a perfect starting point for those who are new to dog sports. The class is geared towards beginner handlers who have not previously competed in Rally or Obedience trials. Dogs who have had some obedience training or have taken any of our 6-week Obedience training classes are eligible to enroll in this class. Rally signs and small courses will be introduced. Introduction to Rally (Intermediate, Advanced, Excellent and Master)

Each of these 3-week classes will offer students an introduction to the next level of Rally signs with review and coursework.

Protocol Requests

For everyone’s safety, any dog that is aggressive to other dogs or people must attend wearing a well-fitting muzzle, preferably the cage-type.

Please do not walk through ongoing classes. Please wait for your class on the concrete sidewalk on the west side of the arena.
